4th of July D.I.Y Tie-Dye

If you didn't tie-dye, did you really have a summer vacation?

This fun summer activity has become somewhat of a family tradition. Let's break out the dye and get creative!

We started doing this during the covid pandemic as a fun at home activity for the kids. This summer my daughter received an awesome tie-dye kit as a birthday gift. You can purchase the kit we got at Walmart.com. This gave me something to do with the kids while I was on maternity leave, juggling three kids, and navigating it all while hubby was away on a work trip. Life was chaotic then, but it was so fun!

We set up our tie dye station in the backyard. The kit came with a plastic table cloth which we used to protect our picnic table. I will have to remember to purchase a few of these from the Dollar Tree store and keep on hand! The kit also came with protective gloves and rubber bands! We purchased affordable white t-shirts from Walmart as well for the kids to dye.

Each kid created three t-shirts with one that was red, white, and blue themed to wear for the 4th of July at camp! We've started this new family tradition a few years ago, that we go camping with my in-laws over the 4th of July. They camp in a camper and we tent camp- until we can afford to buy our dream camper. I can't wait for us to have a camper one day. The past two years our tent flooded during 4th of July camping, but that makes memories right?

The kit comes with some tutorials for designs or just get creative and tie it off however you want. You'll tie off your shirt, cover it in dye, and allow it to sit in the sun for 6-8 hours. Then you will want to rinse it off really well. Once all the extra dye is rinsed out, you can toss it in your washer and dryer. It's pretty easy and all the instruction are included with the kit.

Supplies You'll Need:

  1. Tie Dye Kit

  2. White T-Shirt, other white clothing, towels, blankets, etc.

  3. Water
