Plain and simple, I love fall and Ohio is in full force fall right now.
Inspired by our changing weather, here is our easy crockpot applesauce recipe
and some free download apple activities for kids!
This past weekend we took a trip to our favorite local apple orchard: Brant's Apple Orchard. We try to make it there a couple times throughout the season. Our favorites are the apple cider slushies, the honeycrisp apples, and the apple cider donuts! It's quit the popular place when they open up for the season and other a wide variety of apples, goods, sweets and treats, soup and sandwiches of the day, special donuts that change daily, and so much more! My kids favorite part is the cover bridge playground. We picked up some Gala apples to make this easy crockpot apple sauce together. We also enjoyed a couple tasty treats with family and friends.
I thought it be fun to do a couple little activities to go along with our apple orchard trip. I found this "What's Inside An Apple" freebie from Buggy and Buddy. I thought this would be fun for the kids to draw what they believe is inside an apple. Maybe there's a wiggly worm inside! I found "The Life Cycle of an Apple" free book download from Stay At Home Educator. This little book is so informational and is fun for kids to color as they read.
My son was so eager to help make the applesauce! He is my little chef. He loves to be in the kitchen helping to cook, bake, and learn new ways of making food. He really wanted to make apple pie but I thought it be fun to try our hand at Crockpot Applesauce.
Crockpot Cinnamon Applesauce Recipe
This is an easy recipe for anyone to make and is ready in just 4 hours! It smells so heavenly as it cooks too. Serve it warm over some vanilla ice cream for a delicious fall dessert.
Ingredients:
6 medium sized gala apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Instructions:
Peel, core, and slice your apples. My son thought it was so cool that mom could peel the apples in one long apple skin ribbon. He found those to be a nice little snack.
Place your apple slices into your crockpot. Sprinkles the cinnamon and sugar over top of the apples. Pour the water into the crockpot and give everything a quick toss.
Let it cook on high for 4 hours.
When it's finished cooking, remove the lid and stir with a wire whisk. Keep stirring this you reach desired consistency. Serve it warm over some vanilla ice cream for a delicious apple pie like treat.
Allow applesauce to cool completely before storing in an air tight container in the refrigerator.
Enjoy Friends!
